B.M. Howell writes Perhaps, as Paul
Feyerabend wrote, Galileo was "wrong" and the church was "right".

I know this remark was made flippantly, rather than seriously. but I think it
can be used to illustrate an important point. Galileo was only wrong if you
think that tyrannical bodies should censor intellectual inquiry because they
fear it will imperil their authority. The church based on their scientific
advisors believed Gallileo was right about the movement of the heavenly
bodies, they were just not ready to admit it to the general public. No
matter how much the postmodernists crow about constructed knowledge I stand
with Gallileo and mutter under my breath-it still moves. (Many of
postmodernisms critique of positivism are well taken-it is a mistake to
equate "positivism" with science. I was raised in a scientific oriented
household and Popper rather than positivists was the inspiration.

These may serve as interesting references on the subject of science, reason
and constructed knowlewdge. I have tried to give a range of different
opinions, but the list is far from comprehensive.
