The most recent research indicates that H. sapiens neanderthalensis is
not on the direct path. H. s. sapiens appear in the middle east some
40 ky (for the anthro's ky = 1000 y - time span) BEFORE the H. s. n. do.
while there may have been some inter-subspecies hanky-panky that added
H.s.n. genes to the general pool, most would say that was limited.
