One major influence I would *like* to say changed my life, from living
with both the Cree of northern Quebec and the Fijians, is how my wife and
I raise our children. I certainly think we gained a lot of wisdom and
practical advice to counteract Western 'phobia' surrounding the bringing
up of children in the first two or three years. However, that said,
without the extended family around, and being part of a two professional
couple, the wisdom is perhaps more honoured in the breach now.
