Now that you mention it, there *IS* a genre of writings which suggests that
medieval cathedrals (notably Chartres, universally considered the best of the
bunch) were built using arcane knowledge from lost civilizations. The usual
suspect is not ET's but some sort of Egyptian/Hebrew secret lore brought back
by the Knights Templar.
