You might be interested in a letter that appeared in the New York Times
yesterday, in the Book Review section. David Levinson (New Haven)
responds to a previous review in which the author was termed "a self-
taught anthropologist." Levinson responds to his wife's query: what is
an amateur anthropologist. It is quite pleasant and witty.

Alas, I don't have the time to reprint it here.
