mon was not sex specific. The sex specific word for "man" has almost
completely disappeared: wergild, werewolf.
So woman (women) is not derived from ModE man (men). If you want to be
correct, and not just politically, you might say "Women implies just a
derivative of men..."
We could revive the IE *kwena, that's still in ModE as queen and quean.
