Re: giant vegetables and the men who grow them

There is some literature on the giant vegetables grown in the Matanuska
Valley just north of Anchorage, Alaska. (Sorry I don't have refs.) This
area was settled by dust bowl-displaced midwesterners in the 30s and I
believe into the 40s, when populating the northern frontier of the US was
a strategic necessity. In pictures of giant cabbages, etc., it always
seems to be men displaying them.
