Date: Friday, September 08, 1995 9:11AM
On Friday September 29th, the Hoo Hoo Gam Ki Museum will open a new exhibit
at their lovely
facility on the Salt River Pima Maricopa Indian Community, Scottsdale AZ.
The exhibit is called:
"FINDS IN THE EARTH: A ROAD LEADING TO THE HOOHOOGAM"
The exhibit focuses on the interpretation of recent finds from
archaeological excavations along
Alma School Road. The exhibit honors a long-standing community partnership
between the Salt
River Pima-Maricopa Indian Community and the Maricopa County Department of
Transportation.
A grand opening of the exhibit and a catered reception will be held at the
Hoo Hoo Gam Ki
Museum from 6:30 to 8:30 pm on the 29th. The Museum is located at 10000
East Osborn Road
on the Salt River Pima-Maricopa Indian Community (SRPMIC). The exibit and
reception are
sponsored by the Hoo Hoo Gam Ki Museum and the Maricopa County Department of
Transportation (MCDOT).
The exhibit was designed and installed by Archaeological Consulting
Services, Inc. of Tempe AZ
(ACS). ACS performed the archaeological mitigation work along Alma School
Road. This
fieldwork was conducted in full consultation with the SRPMIC, the Bureau of
Indian Affairs, the
Arizona SHPO, and the Advisory Council on Historic Preservation.
Completed in 1994, prior to the reconstruction of Alma School Road between
McDowell Road and
McKellips Road, the $415,000 archaeological mitigation program was funded by
MCDOT.
An ACS technical report detailing the excavations and research results will
be published October
5, 1995.
