I would second the reccomendations of Stocking's books and the Bohannon and
Glaser volume. For a more palatable introduction to theoretical issues (for
introductory purposes) try James Lett's _The Human Enterprise_ (ca. 1987) and
Merwyn Garbarino's _History of Sociocultural Thought in Anthropology_ (unsure
of exact title) (ca. 1990). Both texts are short, clearly written, and
slightly provocative.
