In response to Rob Quinlan, Dept of Anthro, U of Missouri-Columbia.
There are plenty of people here in Missouri who practice knapping. The
examples I am best familiar with:
There is a group near Springfield, Missouri, who give courses (week-end
or week long) on mainly aboriginal survival techniques, including
flintknapping. They go by the name of Red Willow.
Also, Jack Ray, a research archaeologist at the SMSU (Southwest Missouri
State University) Center for Archaeological Research flintknapps
proficiently and would gladly give a demonstration, I'm sure.
If anyone is interested in contacting these people, drop me a
message personally and I'll pass on phone numbers and addresses.
(Unfortunately, I don't think any of them have e-mail addresses.)
