Ian's reply and another since take the original inquiry to refer to
taste in terms of sensory matters, e.g. what tastes good.
The reference to Bourdieu's Distinction suggests that the concern is with
judgement of quality or excellence, e.g. in good taste.
If this is so, Grant McCraken's Culture and Consumption might be more
appropriately recommended.
While there is overlap, references might be more useful if we knew
which is intended.
