Two suggested sources are:
CONSERVATION IN AFRICA: PEOPLE, POLICIES AND PRACTICES by David Anderson
and Richard Grove,eds. The chapter by David Turton on the Mursi in
Ethiopia is particularly good. (1987)
THE MYTH OF WILDER AFRICA: CONSERVATION WITHOUT ILLUSION by Jonathan
Adams and Thomas McShane (1992). Although not an anthropological text
per se, it does emphasize sociocultural factors.
