In a letter to the Wall St Journal last week, the head of the American
Enterprise Institute--which sponsored a big conference on
Herrnstein/Murray last summer--claimed that the book represented the
best work being done in American psychology today and that Howard Gardner
et al. were mere outliers. This was in response to a WSJ news article
stating that AEI had sent pre-publication info to experts whose approval
it expected, thus loading the dice for favorable early responses. AEI
of course denied that; I can't say which side was right.
