fires,etc

As others have pointed out, the current fires have had very little impact on
the lives of us here in West LA, especially those of us who live in non-hilly
country. I think that the best visual comment on the fire is in this weeks
Newsweek, which has a photo spread of a Laguna hillside after the fire. One
house is standing:it has a red tile roof, no redwood deck and relatively little
vegetation(or remains thereof) close to the house.
Fire officials are roundly blaming environmental activists who have prevented
controlled burning in LA for a decade. As a consequence, the fuel just piles
up and up,waiting for the spark.
