Not disagreeing, but - I'm pretty sure there _is_ an almost exact
Old European correlation to this, and it was treated the same way (virgin
sacrifice) - the young girl's body, (she did not die a natural death but
was evidently sacrificed) that I believe was found a few years back in
Holland. They even had contests to find a living teeneage girl who'd be the
closest in appearance to her, and used the winner to model for artists'
recreations.
The main difference seems to be _whose_ sacrifice. Since the
Dutch girl's body was, like Juanita's, a pagan sacrifice, it was
considered fair game. A "virgin" Christian martyr like Joan of Arc prob.
would (as John says) be referred to a differently (as a heroine - and
mention of her sexual status would prob. be avoided).
