While "heap of crap" may be a bit of hyperbole, I tend to agree with that
sentiment. Any legitimate concern some of the represented groups may have about
"violation of Native beliefs and principles" is obscured by the absurd
generalization of this protection to any manipulation of any life form (lethal
pathogens included? or are they excluded because some groups do not believe in
them?). Anthropologists are taught to be sensitive to other cultures, but the
form of this statement undermines its own credibility. I can only conclude that
the peoples represented by the statement have once again been manipulated to
support the political agenda of a few.
