_Right_and_Left:_ Essays_on_Dual_Symbolic_Classifications, edited by Rodney
Needham (University of Chicago Press, 1973) is full of facinating essays on the
topic. In terms of gender, my understanding is that males are much more likely
to be lefties than females, but I don't have the numbers at hand.
