Here is a copy of a note I sent on what I found out about the rock in the
Dome of the Rock. Thanks to all who tried to help out. Bob Lee

----------------------------Original message----------------------------
Hi Micki: Paydirt at last, but not from the anthropology/archeology
list or from the religion list. I has also sent a message to an
experimental information-about-Israel address I stumbled upon while
using gopher. They mailed me photocopies of some material from
"The Concise Encyclopedia of Islam" by Glasse and from "Jerusalem"
by Teddy Kollek and Moshe Pearlman.
The rock was there in bibical days. It is the highest location on
Temple Mount. Scholars believe that the holy
of holies was build above the rock -- my hunch was right! What I
remembered as a hole in the rock is a crack due to an earthquake in
1067 -- one year after 1066 and all that.
Best regards - BOB
