Isn't Czeslaw Milosz the author of "The unbearable lightness of Being"?
It was made into a film. And, yes, the book begins in ancient Lithuania.
I have misplaced my copy of the book, hence I cannot check out the
veracity of my memory. Try books in print. If Milosz did write
"Unbearable Lightness of Being" you will find him, and the route to him
will be through his publisher.
The only other person I can think of who might be able to tell you about
Milosz - if he is Lithuanian, that is - is Professor Romas Vastokas at
Trent University in Peterborough, Ontario. Dr. Vastokas is of Lithuanian
origin, and is also a member of the Department of Anthropology at Trent.
