There is considerable difference, copyright being easier in Canada.
Although there is more to it, Canadian law assumes that copyright
belongs to the author and accords significant protection
if you just do as your person did and state on the title page that this
material is copyrighted by you the author. As I understand it, such
a statement would have no legal standing in the U.S..
