i agree that some of the inequities in the system are historical and
reflect past hiring practices. but two things to note here:
studies have shown that women and minorities take longer on average
to climb each rung of the ladder. this must reflect some sort of
discrimination.
with sciences and engineering the discrimination against minorities
does exist despite current hiring policies.
