OKANAGAN UNIVERSITY COLLEGE, KELOWNA, B.C. CANADA
is pleased to host the 34th Annual Meeting of the
WESTERN ASSOCIATION OF SOCIOLOGY AND ANTHROPOLOGY
MAY 9-12, 1996
(RE)TURNING RIGHT: CULTURE, POLITICS, SOCIETY APPROACHING THE MILLENNIUM
At a time of increasing hegemony of the new right, we wish to encourage
theoretical, methodological and pedagogical discussion of topics related
to understanding and countering the "turn to the right". Critical
scholars from ALL disciplines are encouraged to present papers,
organize panels, convene workshops and roundtable discussions on
topics pertaining to: race, ethnicity, class, immigration,
environment; nationalisms, tribalisms and the new racism;
First Nations land claims, self-government, social movements;
discourses on debt, development, privatization and the shift of
political power to transnationals; lesbian and gay rights, gender,
sexuality, concepts of family, women's health and reproductive rights;
poverty, homelessness, under- and unemployment. A selection of papers
will be published. Those interested in presenting a paper, organizing
a symposium, workshop and/or round table should submit their proposal or
paper title by November 1, 1995 to
