Vacancy Announcement
LECTURESHIP IN EDUCATION AND ANTHROPOLOGY
Stanford University School of Education seeks to appoint a Lecturer in education and
anthropology (fall or winter quarter, 1995-96 through 8/31/98). Cultural anthropologists
with a recent Ph.D. in the social and cultural organization of learning and/or schooling are
encouraged to apply. The candidate is expected to teach courses and guide research on
ethnographic inquiry and cultural analysis. Geographic specialty is open, but a familiarity
with the problems of learning and schooling in America is required.
This position is housed in a small Education and Anthropology Program which is in turn
part of an interdisciplinary faculty research concentration on the Social Sciences and
Educational Practices. We seek a colleague with a strong commitment to research and
teaching and a willingness to use scholarship in the reform of education.
It is expected that applicants should have completed a doctorate before the date of
appointment and should send the following materials, if applicable: curriculum vitae,
representative publications, and teaching evaluations. Please have three letters of
recommendation sent by their authors, or alternatively, have placement papers sent.
