Cultural Survival?

I think that the anthropologist's job, qua anthropologist, is to
describe and explain human behavior to the utmost of her or his ability.
I believe that knowledge is better than ignorance; that our contribution
is a long-term one; and that it is a contribution chiefly to humankind
as a whole rather than to our own society or to the specific people we
study. I think Keith Dever and I are on the same wave length here. I
do hope--and believe--that anthropologists, qua decent human beings
rather than qua anthropologists, try to defend and promote the interests
and well being of the people they study. --Bob Graber
