Prehistoric man and meat query

for a recent study (mentioned by Rush Limbaugh in a segment of his TV show)
claiming that (let's see if I can get this straight); prehistoric man became
more intelligent as he/she began to eat meat. This was due to the fact that
meat is easier to digest, so the energy that had been used by the body before
to digest was now being passed on to allow the brain size to increase.
Limbaugh claimed on his show that it was a new anthropological study. My
patron is trying to locate the original study/citation. Any ideas? Does anyone
even vaugely recognize this study?
