Silverman writes:
"I often use the terms: kinship-based societies.... I find
that kinship-based societies often is most useful, especially when talking
about change."
This reminds me of an earlier exchange in which it was noted that the study
of kinship has often been relegated to a minor position in courses--leading
us to the curious situation of defining the societies of primary concern to
anthropologist as centered around kinship, yet simultaneously eschewing a
study of the basis for these societies in courses!
