Many of the posts about the nature of culture are attempting to
re-invent the wheel. For an excellent redefinition of culture to suit a
world where all cultural phenomena are connected, where we need to think
about process rather than units, take a look at
Hannerz, Ulf 1992 Cultural Complexity: Studies in the Social
Organization of Meaning. Columbia U. Press.
He certainly does not have all the answers, but I immediately felt like
he was thinking in the right directions; reinventing anthropology
without a taxonomic idea of cultures as bounded species-like entities.
