the increased demand for cosmetics is probably linked directly to an
explosion of prostitution in Amazonian "boom towns." Yes, there are
some women (and men) who are spending their extra cash on hand lotions
and perfumes--and perhaps even "Skin-So-Soft," and excellent insect
and perfumes--and perhaps even "Skin-So-Soft," an excellent insect
repellant--but the top customers are undoubtedly taking advantage of
Avon to invest in their self-employment opportunities! One wonders
whether the Avon lady might be persuaded to include condoms and birth-
control devices in her inventory...
