At the university where I study (University Of Melbourne), we are =
priviledged to have one applied anthropologist on staff (of a permanent =
staff of four lecturers), who spends his non-teaching time on applied =
projects.=20
We also have a research associate who is an applied anthropologist with =
(as I understand it) more work than he can handle at the moment, who =
comes to our weekly department seminars and gives guest lectures to =
undergrads. He is very approachable and knowledgeable.
As graduate students we have made representation to academic committees =
telling them that we want to know how to become professional (not =
necessarily academic) anthropologists, asking that undergraduate courses =
have some applied projects in them, not just interminable theoretical =
essays.
