Demographic Transition critique

transition thesis in the Atlantic Monthly recently and was surprised and
somewhat dismayed by her conclusions. If she is correct then the
long term prognosis for the population problem is much more pessimistic
than I had previously thought.
Does anyone know of a recent reference in which Abernathy spells
out her analysis in detail?
