Research Fellowship - Future of the Peoples of the Rainforest

POST-DOCTORAL RESEARCH FELLOWSHIP IN SOCIAL
ANTHROPOLOGY
The University of Kent at Canterbury is part of a consortium of
institutions which has received a contract from the European
Commission for research on the future of tropical rainforest
peoples. The University will, in particular, coordinate research
for the Pacific area. In connection with this, applications are
invited for a two year post-doctoral research fellowship with the
possibility of extension in the Department of Sociology and Social
Anthropology. The appointment is scheduled to run from 1 September
1995, though an earlier starting date may be negotiated.
The person appointed should preferably have research experience in
Papua New Guinea, the Solomon Islands, Vanuatu or New Caledonia, and
significant published work in this area. Knowledge of French would
be an advantage. She or he will be expected to undertake fieldwork
on some aspect of human-forest interaction, coordinate the inputs of
research students, liaise with research centres in other EC
countries and in the Pacific, and collaborate in the work of the
Ethnobiology Laboratory in Canterbury under the general direction of
Professor R. F. Ellen.
The appointment will be on the research officer scale at a point
determined by the qualifications and experience of the successful
applicant.
