I thought I'd just mention that a lot of the things mentioned, particuarly thos
e dealing with difficult climates, are available through mail order sources. A
good source is a magazine,"American Survival Guide". Although it's a bit gun nu
tty, they emphasize preparation for emergencies as well. Their ads feature a nu
mber of major mail order suppliers of things like hermetically sealable contain
ers, various solar powered units, etc. If you can't bring yourself to buy a cop
y, you can always read it at the newstand and copy down the 800 numbers for the
store. The "Real Goods" catalog has various solar power units to run computers
in the field, as well. Lynn
PS-My mother in law subscribed me to ASG, she thinks that California is in immi
nent danger of falling into the sea and thought I should be prepared (then why
didn't she buy me a boat?)
