I think that it does matter what our non-applied colleagues think, because I know many that
would rather see no majors at all than recommend students to take an applied course. at
best, they simply do not see applied as relevant to anthropology in the ,long run, and at
worst they see it as antithetical to their view of the nature of the discipline (extreme
cultural relativism. But I suggest that applied anthropologists sit down with their
colleagues and insist that specific applied components be added to all introductory courses or
make an introductory applied course one of the required core courses for all majors.

I bet iapplied anthropologists do this, they will not be on good speaking terms with their non-
applied colleagues very quickly.
