I am not sure it really matters. The bottom-line for our colleagues in
academia is enrollments. And if enrollments drop because students are
uncertain about the job prospects upon completion of an undergraduate or
graduate program in anthropology then our academic colleagues are in
trouble. To attract students who are interested in postgraduate job
opportunities (and who isn't these days), there should be an applied
component to any academic anthropology program.
