Pierre Bourdieu - Outline of a Theory of Practice. In my work on
consumption, conserism and household decision making, I find I keep
coming back to this.
You should also not miss sections of Bourdieu's "Distinction" if you
don't already know it. One book you might find particularly interesting
is Tambiah's The Buddhist Saints of the Forest and the Cult of Amulets,
which has some interesting things about Buddhism and consumerism. And
Wolf's "Europe and the People Without HIsotry" is pretty essential as
the anthropological rethinking of world systems theory. Another one of
my favorites is the middle section of Fabian's "Time and the Other" -
and as a theoretical tour of recent marxism you cannot beat Don
Donham's "History, Power, Ideology."
An eclectic selection - I'm sure you will get plenty more listings of
theoretical mainstram heavyweights.
