I'm helping a friend prepare some background for an epidemiological study
of mental illness in the West bank and Gaza areas. Any references to medical
anthropology and/or medical sociology done in Palestine or elsewhere in
the Levant (including Israel) would be appreciated. We are trying to get a
handle on folk categories of illness so we can think about how these might
bear on the use of dsm3 designations like post-traumatic stess disorder,
depression and the like. Any help would be much appreciated. If anyone
knows of an appropriate mid-east list, that would be good too.
