An excellent discussion of this problem can be found in "Science," vol.
264, June 17, 1994 under the heading of GENES AND BEHAVIOR. Behavioral
geneticists had hoped to find single gene explanations for behavioral
disorders and personality. The exisitng evidence seems to be that even
at the genetic level, one must search for multiple gene explanations. And
even here, it is necessary to take into account the effects of the central
nervous system and the environment to obtain sensible explanations of
phenomena.
