Subject says it all, would anyone have any anthrpological perspectives to
offer on the manifestations of soma in the Vedic Hindu sense? I am quite
familiar with Wasson's book _Soma; Divine Mushroom of Immortality_ and
Flattery & Schwatz' _Haoma and Harmaline_ (which I feel makes most of its
argument on linguistic and literary 'evidence.' Has there been any
fieldwork on the subject recently?

Remember, we see Huxley (Aldous that is) using the word soma to refer to
several instances of human enlightenment. He was also rather well versed in
matters Central Asian. So perhaps there might be some semi-recent sources?
