It was apparent to me that _Gallapagos_ was influenced heavily by
Vonnegut's reading of S.J. Gould's popular works. The emphasis on
drift's role in evolution and 'hopeful monsters' and irish elk antlers as
an example of natural selection's inefficiency all smacked of the good
Dr. Gould.

Hence, perhaps, Vonnegut's odd view of evolution? :)
