If I grasp your request correctly, it seems like you're about to study
the Net like a field work. Why not consider Internet as something between
'the Global Village' and the role domain called 'Traffic' (cfr. Ulf
Hannerz: 'Exploring the City', Columbia Univ.Press 1980).
The Internett is really a streetcorner for the most diverse interests,
and encounters are free of obligations, like a casual encounter on a city
street or in a 'focused gathering', described by Erving Goffman.
