Um, actually Toby, while the FORMAL political structures are less affected
by the german heritage here, the informal stuff gets a big shove. Even at
the level of public schools, the basic models were set by copying many
aspects of the prussian school system. IIRC german-americans became the
largest single ethnic group in america by about 1890. They still are,
