According to a relatively obscure tradition (the sources escape me at the
moment...) Lilith was a spirit created by God to be a companion to Adam
in the first days...before he got around to creating Eve. Lilith was an
independent creation, and is said to have been an air or fire spirit of
some kind; Q'ballah sources say that she was from another "seraph" - an
alternate world or dimension. Some say that she is the source of
middle-eastern vampire legends.
