POSITION ANNOUNCEMENT - PLEASE POST

ASSISTANT DIRECTOR FOR HUMANITIES COMPUTING

NEW YORK UNIVERSITY

The Academic Computing Facility (ACF) is New York University's central
service organization for academic computing and networking. From its five
locations, the ACF provides a wide variety of services and resources for
use by NYU faculty, students, and research staff in instruction, learning,
and research.

We are seeking an energetic proactive humanities specialist who can
provide leadership and expertise in the realm of humanities computing at
NYU.

The successful candidate will meet the following prerequisites:

<> Bachelor's degree or equivalent with significant academic experience in
the humanities, and a heavy emphasis on the use of computer technology in
the humanities. Advanced degree and applicable foreign language skills
preferred.

<> Extensive knowledge of information and digital technologies commonly
used in the humanities such as those applied to digital texts, electronic
editions, CD-ROM, digital imaging, multimedia, courseware development and
delivery, quantitative methods, OCR text scanning, SGML mark-up, textual
analysis programming, and interactive network applications.

<> Some experience with programming languages, network and communications
protocols and operating systems. Good knowledge of software tools useful
management tasks including communications, reports, budgets, and project
management.

<> Familiarity with university funding and research activities as well as
3-4 years experience with humanities computing in a university or research
environment.

<> Excellent interpersonal and writing skills, ability to train and assist
faculty in a collegial atmosphere. Excellent management skills for both
technical and content related projects.

<> Active in professional societies and associations promoting computer
technology in the humanities.
