I thought it was pretty funny.

The "thal" in the original "Neanderthal" comes from the German word for
"valley" (the valley of the Neander Fluss (river)). In modern speech
it's been changed to "tal", but it has nothing to do with tall or
short. I'll wager that the original poster knew this.
