James Borrett - I have just received two Failed Mail messages, they
were both addressed to you. The second one said I proposed to post the
seal thing on the thread. This is the only way I know how to reach you
if they keep bouncing. I can now understand what JDM was chundering on
about.

I quote without comment the opening sentence of an e-mail letter I have
just received from London:

"Elaine, I expect you have heard that Philip Tobias did an
extraordinary thing at UCL on Tuesday, making a grand apology to you on
behalf of himself and all his colleagues..." The rest is too
blush-making. I had not heard. I was not there. I can hardly believe
it.
