Archeo in Anthro Dept

This may be inappropriate for this group. If it is, I appologize.

My department at CSULA has the Archaeology classes in the Anthro dept. Put
another way, there is no Archaeology department. Archaeology students must
meet the requirements of the Anthro degree, to include folklore, religion,
culture area classes, etc. How might this situation benefit or harm the
study of Archaeology? What are the benefits of a Archaeology dept on its
own?
