It's starting to look to me like Scandentia is more of a generalized
arboreal insectivorous group that resembles the Primates only in sharing
some primitive features. The petrosal tympanic bulla doesn't seem to be
enough to join them more tightly than that. I expect that someone will
find that the petrosal bulla evolved several times during the K-T
transition.
