NASA (or the new International Conglomerate Space Program) wants to spend
beaucoup $$ to send spacecraft to Mars to try to determine *whether* there
was ever any life there--it's fairly widely accepted that at one time *many*
millenia ago Mars was much wetter and thus a less hostile environment. But
I've never heard anyone suggest that they would be looking for any life form
more advanced than analogues to primitive terrestrial organisms such as
cyanobacteria or lichens...
