HELP!--I need an analogy

I'm in the process of writing a mid-term for my World Ideologies course..
Surprise! Surprise! It's due tomorrow. Any way, I'm trying to make it a
bit colorful and use an analogy for the situation that I mainly see in
the novel it covers (_He, She and It_ by Marge Piercy), and that is that
there is a double-edge sword no matter which way certain characters
turn. What is another *colorful* way to say that there is a double-edge
sword? Any suggestions would be great. If you get this message after
today, please don't respond, I will already have thought of something--I
hope!

Thanks in advance,

Elaine
