I read a paper last year (I could look up the citation for those
interested) that compared the linguistic development of deaf
and hearing infants. One interesting finding was that deaf infants
babbled manually at about the same time that hearing infants
babbled orally. It was in a NATO published volume on cognitive
neuroscience.
